Job Summary:

The Vanderbilt Health Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for an Associate Vice President Revenue Cycle Management & Billing Operations. As a leading academic medical center, we are committed to providing the highest quality patient care, conducting groundbreaking research, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. Our Associate Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management & Billing Operations plays a crucial role in supporting these efforts by managing the financial health of our institution. The leader in this crucial role will engage with colleagues across the institution and external vendors to continuously improve business processes and all related upstream workflows.

Shift: First Shift (Days) Remote

Role Accountabilities:

  • Oversee, monitor, and manage the Business Office leadership team to ensure optimized accounts receivable and external vendor activities to meet organizational Key Performance Indicators.
  • Strategize and guide efforts to streamline and automate processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in all department areas.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with teams across VUMC to communicate and educate about the financial impact of operational and strategic programs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Revenue Cycle Business Office internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the development of the annual revenue budget in conjunction with finance leadership by providing specific direction, input, and review of anticipated changes in revenue.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Develop departmental plans and objectives based on the interpretation of institutional policy and goals.
  • Achieve goals and objectives by developing project plans with timelines and milestones and holding staff and peers accountable to meet agreed-upon deadlines.

Performance Improvement:

  • Analyze and evaluate ongoing department programs to identify areas where adjustments/improvements are needed.
  • Initiate changes in or develop new policies, procedures, and methods.
  • Prioritize, initiate, and oversee efforts to automate processes to optimize accuracy and efficiency.
  • Participate in departmental and interdepartmental committees to address problems and facilitate information exchange about programs, questions, etc.
  • Identify, establish, and evaluate quality assurance standards, programs, and procedures within the department.

Departmental Management:

  • Analyze and evaluate budget variances.
  • Prepare justification or develop alternatives for cost containment/reduction.
  • Establish and assess standards of performance to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the department.
  • Ensure departmental adherence to all Human Resources and VUMC policies and procedures.
  • Participate in periodic management meetings to keep top management informed of departmental problems and concerns.

Staff Management:

  • Develop staffing plans to meet departmental objectives.
  • Define the qualifications and performance expectations for all staff positions through the Performance Development system, including department-specific job descriptions and measurable performance standards.
  • Ensure staff development through orientation, training programs, and work experiences.
  • Assess staff competencies against performance expectations stated in their job descriptions (typically annually).
  • Supervise the team to ensure coordination and control of the work and procedures; provide advice/consultation to staff on escalated issues.
  • Adjust work schedules or project priorities to meet emergencies or changing conditions.

Qualifications – External:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years’ experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years plus of relevant experience
  • 5 years plus Finance leadership experience
  • Strong operations experience
  • Academic medical center experience
