Where and how you can work
This role is based in Sydney and operates in a hybrid work environment. While you’ll enjoy the flexibility of working remotely, the team values collaboration and currently holds regular in-person meetings every Tuesday at our Sydney campus.
What you’d be doing in this role
We are looking for an experienced Creative Director to join the team with a background in brand design. This is a 7 month fixed-term maternity cover contract, with potential opportunities for transitioning to permanent for the right fit. You must be comfortable working across a range of projects both big and small. You’re a conceptual thinker who can bring your ideas to life in new and inspiring ways. You have a strong design point of view. When you decide to make something, you see your vision from concept to launch and can lead a diverse team.
You will be part of the Canva Creative Team and work in conjunction with many other teams at Canva (Product, Partnerships, Leadership and Internal Comms, etc). Our team responds to briefs from across the organization and engages in brainstorming, sketching, writing, illustration, prototyping, motion and design. We collaborate with many cross functional partners to create ground-breaking brand designs and content. This could include brand design both internally and externally; for example, design for product launches, hype reels, illustrations, brand elements, messaging, events & high profile presentations.
Here’s a glimpse of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
- Design creative solutions for Canva brand including; new product launches, brand assets, branded product UI and a wide range of other digital and physical communications.
- Direct meaningful content including; animations, videos and graphic images for landing pages and campaign websites.
- Experienced in articulating design decisions and connecting strategy with decisions.
- Collaborate with a team of designers, copywriters, motion designers, videographers, photographers and other groups to publish content at speed.
- Experience in managing and working with multiple stakeholders across an organization including working closely with Leadership.
- Lead and empower your creative team, providing direction, mentorship and coaching, mobilizing them to execute on your vision while positioning them to achieve their own professional development goals.
- Partner with our Executive Creative Director, Creative Operations Lead, and Head of Performance Marketing to set seasonal marketing goals and advise on planning, organizing and creative resource management to achieve those goals.

- You have proven experience leading a team of brand designers as a Creative Director/ Brand Design Leader.

- You balance big-picture strategy with a commitment to pixel-perfect execution.
- You are an exceptional communicator, able to articulate design decisions and mentor others effectively.
