Key responsibilities

The Data Engineering Lead is expected to work on their own initiative, under the direction of senior leadership and practice leads.  The Team Member is measured on their ability to demonstrate experience in the following areas.

Data Engineering 

  • Pull data from SQL, NoSQL and API based data sources using Python and Apache Spark.
  • Clean and enrich data with SQL and Python scripting.
  • Carry out data hygiene activities to shed light on client data (including data cleansing and enrichment) using SQL and Python scripting.
  • Create clear recommendations for remediation of data structure and cleanliness, which could impact the overall Enterprise Search experience. 
  • Work with our data practice in creating a law firm data model that could be used across other practices.
  • Build Data Visualizations in PowerBI and/or Modern reporting tools.

Building relationships

  • Provide direction, motivation, training, and decision support to other Engineers and consultants (internal and client where appropriate).
  • Recognize and manage staff diversity, performance, and or personality conflicts to work as part of an effective team(s).
  • Develop a position of trust and expertise by delivering and sharing knowledge.

Continuous improvement 

  • Leverage critical thinking and new tools to enhance project and development quality.
  • Propose or refine development standards, processes, and methodologies, focusing on streamlining administrative overhead and adding value to our clients and Fireman & Company.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of data engineering or architecture experience, with a strong focus on Azure technologies including Azure Synapse and Azure Databricks.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing cloud data projects, with a proven track record of successful delivery.
  • Deep understanding of business processes and ability to align data strategies with business goals.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and Apache Spark for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Extensive experience in building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets within Azure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically about how data can empower business decisions.
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture and building highly secure and scalable solutions in a cloud environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business terms.
  • Experience in data governance, ensuring data quality, and data security standards.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, particularly in the context of data integration and management.
  • Background in business analysis, with skills in identifying business needs and developing appropriate data-driven strategies.
  • Knowledge of React, SharePoint, and PowerBI for building comprehensive data solutions and reports.
  • Familiarity with Git and version control best practices in a collaborative development environment.
  • Experience in the legal sector, especially in roles involving data management and enterprise search technologies.

Candidates based in California, Colorado, Hawaii, New York or Washington:

The Compensation range for this role is 91,922.40 – 183,844.80 USD annually and may be eligible for an annual bonus. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual’s location, skills, experience and qualifications.
