Job Summary:
Under the leadership of the Head of Data Governance, the Data Steward plays a crucial role in supporting the quality, integrity, and security of Zoetis’s data. The Data Steward is responsible for the management and governance of data across the organization and/or a specific business domain. This individual plays a crucial role in implementing data governance initiatives and ensuring the data is accurate, accessible, and secure, supporting business operations, analytics, and decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, policies, standards, change management and procedures to maintain data integrity and compliance.
Data Quality Management: Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data by implementing data quality standards. Gather and report data quality metrics and define improvement opportunities.
Data Collection and Processing: Develop and manage processes for data collection, entry, and sharing to prevent data duplication and corruption.
Data Security: Monitor data usage, access controls and implement measures to protect data from breaches.
Data Documentation: Maintain data catalogs, dictionaries, and taxonomies to ensure data is well-documented and easily accessible.
Collaboration: Work with various departments to understand their data needs and ensure data consistency across the organization. Ensure that data decisions are communicated, and data users understand impacts of decisions.
Training and Support: Provide training to staff on data management principles and support them in resolving data-related issues.
Technical Skills Requirements:
- Strategic problem-solving and ability to drive creative solutions in a complex environment.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence without authority, motivate cross-functional teams to common goals, and drive behavior change.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets to inform strategy and proficiency with quantitative languages and tools including SQL (or another advanced programming language such as R, C++, etc.) and Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with tools and technologies used for data governance, data quality and data cataloging.
- Strong analytical abilities to identify data issues and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to facilitate the integration of data from various sources and ensuring it is correctly mapped and standardized.
- Ability to document data definitions, metadata, and data lineage to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Strong process management skills, including the ability to (re)define processes and conduct continuous improvement efforts.
- Understanding of the business context and how data supports business processes.
- Ability to translate business requirements into data requirements.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders with the ability to synthesize actionable recommendations.
- Experience with data privacy laws (like GDPR, CCPA) and security protocols to ensure data compliance.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Tableau preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field or equivalent is strongly preferred, MBA or advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of work experience in data and analytics role(s), with experience in supporting technology and data management functions preferred.
- Experience in data management, data governance, data quality or a similar role is required.

Position is based in Parsippany, NJ
Travel requirement: less than 20%
