The Director of Financial Reporting for Net Patient Revenue is a newly established role responsible for the accurate reporting, forecasting, and reconciliation of net patient revenue. This role will enhance financial transparency and accountability across the organization by implementing standardized processes for net patient revenue accounting. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, Controller, this position will lead the accounting efforts related to net patient revenue, including the implementation of a new contractual discounts and allowance (CD&A) estimation tool. The Director will collaborate closely with the financial reporting, revenue cycle and government reimbursement teams to ensure the accuracy of net patient revenue, providing critical insights for operational and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 8-10 years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 3-5 years in a healthcare environment focusing on net patient revenue.
  • Experience with revenue cycle management, electronic health record system, and revenue cycle analytics tools to track and report patient revenue.
  • Experience using EPIC and Kodiak (formerly Crowe) a plus.
  • Healthcare financial reporting experience highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, healthcare reimbursement regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Skills: 
    • Expertise in net patient revenue analysis, forecasting, and reconciliation.
    • Proven ability to lead process development and improvements in financial reporting and revenue cycle management.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Experience with healthcare financial reporting systems, with a focus on integrating patient revenue data into general financial statements.
    • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach to resolving operational challenges related to revenue reporting.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Oversee the financial reporting processes related to net patient revenue, ensuring the accuracy of data and compliance with US GAAP, healthcare industry standards, and reimbursement regulations.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the quarterly continuing bond disclosures, including management discussion and analysis.
  • Lead the implementation of the new CD&A tool to improve revenue forecasting and reporting accuracy.*Manage the accounting for the HDAA directed payments program, ensuring proper tracking, reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Collaborate closely with the government reimbursement team to ensure accurate reporting of Medicare, Medicaid, and other government-funded program revenues.
  • Drive process improvements for net patient revenue reporting, reducing inefficiencies and ensuring timely responses to revenue-related queries from leadership and operational teams.

Operational Leadership:

  • Standardize and oversee the reconciliation of patient revenue accounts, ensuring that all patient revenue data is accurately recorded across hospital and professional billing systems.
  • Work closely with the Director of Financial Reporting to ensure alignment and consistency in financial reporting, particularly with respect to net patient revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle teams and finance systems teams to ensure seamless data integration and real-time visibility into revenue streams.
  • Provide key financial insights to leadership on net patient revenue performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to optimize financial outcomes.

Process Improvement & Systems Management

  • Lead efforts to standardize net patient revenue reporting processes, improving the accuracy of revenue forecasts and reducing discrepancies.
  • Stay current with changes in healthcare reimbursement regulations and guide the organization in adapting its reporting processes to meet new requirements.
  • Work with IT and finance teams to optimize reporting systems, ensuring timely and accurate data flow between systems for net patient revenue reporting.
  • Ensure all reporting and accounting practices related to net patient revenue comply with evolving healthcare industry standards and internal policies.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for net patient revenue reporting across the organization, providing leadership and guidance to other finance and operational teams.
  • Lead efforts to identify skill gaps, structuring a skilled net patient revenue team and ensuring the team is equipped with the expertise to meet organizational needs related to net patient revenue.
  • Direct and mentor the net patient revenue financial reporting team
  • Collaborate with team members involved in net patient revenue accounting, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve data-driven decision-making by delivering actionable financial insights related to net patient revenue.
