Distinguished Engineer, Consumer Data Platform
We are seeking a hands-on Distinguished Engineer to lead our company-wide initiative to modernize our Consumer Data Platform. This role is responsible for the design and implementation of our next-generation Consumer Data Platform, including:
Key Responsibilities:
- User Data Collection & Integration – Ingest data from various Yahoo properties and third-party sources.
- Identity Resolution – Design and build an Identity Graph solution to unify fragmented customer data by matching identifiers into a single customer profile.
- Data Enrichment & Segmentation – Develop solutions to enrich user profiles with attributes (e.g., demographics, preferences, behavior) and create audience segments.
- Batch & Real-Time Data Activation – Build APIs and data feeds for Yahoo marketing tools, applications, and platforms to enable personalized engagement.
- Privacy & Compliance – Manage customer consent, ensure GDPR and CCPA compliance, and implement data governance frameworks.
- AI & Predictive Analytics – Leverage AI/ML to predict customer behavior, optimize recommendations, and improve conversion rates.
You will collaborate closely with Yahoo Business Units such as Mail, Search, News, Sports, and Finance, as well as the CTO’s office. Additionally, you will support multiple Data Engineering teams within our organization and across the company.
Required Qualifications:
- 15+ years in software/data engineering, with at least 5+ years at the Principal or Distinguished Engineer level.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing Consumer Data, User Engagement, and Personalization solutions at a global enterprise scale (billions of daily events, multiple properties, multiple geographies).
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, data lakes, and data warehouses.
- Extensive experience with real-time data pipelines.
- Proficiency in batch processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Beam).
- Expertise in data matching algorithms and techniques (e.g., fuzzy matching, graph-based models).
- Familiarity with predictive modeling, personalization algorithms, and recommendation systems.
- Experience with feature engineering and ML pipelines.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with teams in product, marketing, legal, and data science.
- Experience mentoring Principal Engineers, Senior Staff Engineers, and technical leaders.
- Strong ability to influence C-suite decisions on data strategy and platform investments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with GA4 360 and sGTM.
- Strong understanding of identity graphs, probabilistic/deterministic identity resolution, and cross-device tracking.
- Working knowledge of leading third-party CDP solutions (e.g., Adobe Experience Platform, Twilio Segment).
- Hands-on involvement in privacy-by-design architectures for GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA compliance.
- Expertise in data lineage, cataloging, and auditability tools such as Dataplex, AWS DataZone, Data.AllHub.
