Enterprise Data Governance Lead (Remote)

The Enterprise Data Governance Lead is critical to advancing the enterprise data strategy at Jazz and enabling a more data driven culture at Jazz. The role is responsible for creating the Enterprise Data Governance Framework as well as driving concepts of data literacy and data ownership across the organization. As an Enterprise Lead you will be partnering with the various business and Information Services (IS) functions to educate them on the practice of enterprise data governance, leading governance sessions for master data elements and driving consistency in the use of data catalogs and master data throughout the organization.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Design of purpose built, user centric, data governance framework to drive strong data ownership, enable user adoption and enable strong governance
  • Partner with IS peers and business functions to release and evolve data governance and master data management framework with a focus on optimizing data and analytics at Jazz
  • Define data governance strategy by gathering and creating enterprise-wide guiding principles, policies and processes
  • Partner with multiple teams including fellow Enterprise Data Strategy colleagues, Information Security, Legal, and Enterprise Architecture to define and implement relevant data governance policies and/or data risk and control framework
  • Provide expertise on functional data governance models including the design, effectiveness and performance monitoring
  • Establish and lead data governance council(s) to provide oversight of governance policy creation and master data governance for both the enterprise and functionally specific needs
  • Ensure engagement in data governance council from business and IS partners and partner with stakeholders to ensure adoption and engagement within projects and functions
  • Lead data stewards and data owners in data governance processes and ensure alignment of functions and roles in the governance process
  • Guide the development and maintenance of the data catalog and dictionary including identification of business-critical metrics and data elements
  • Education and coaching of the business to become more “data-savvy” through understanding of data definitions and data quality considerations
  • Improve data quality and secure trust in data through partnership with enterprise data architect and functional teams to better define and manage data
  • Assess current state maturity and propose a scalable approach to mature the data literacy of the organization
  • Drive data literacy program to advance data driven thinking in partnership with IS colleagues
  • Maintain inventory of externally acquired data assets and the policies governing the use of each asset

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

 

  • 7+ years relevant experience in a Data Governance / Data Management or related area
  • Experience running a Data Governance Council and managing a data dictionary
  • Strong experience in MDM, data governance, data literacy or related Data & Analytics fields
  • Experience in implementing MDM solutions and data governance frameworks, specifically Informatica MDM
  • Experience working in highly collaborative cross-functional teams and delivering solutions through both waterfall and agile project delivery
  • Prior experience in highly regulated industry environment required, experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech industry preferred
  • Knowledge of industry tools used to manage/implement data governance components (Alation, Colibra, Informatica, etc.)
  • Experienced with full data information lifecycle management, data retention, data loss prevention, and regulatory compliances, including but not limited to GDPR, SoX, GxP, etc
  • Able to apply strategic thinking in planning for data governance, metadata management, data quality management and change management.
  • Proven ability to lead matrixed teams and coaching teams through the change management experience needed to maximize the value of data governance and master data management
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills, in complex, cross-functional teams with proven ability to communicate and educate across all levels of the organization
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills and ability to drive change through active listening and engagement across the organization
  • Excels at collaboration and problem solving with varied stakeholders and technical teams
  • Able to stay up to date with industry data trends and best practices
  • Passionate about promoting a data driven culture while operating with the highest integrity and ensuring responsible and ethical data usage
  • Has a ‘service’ mentality, recognizing and promoting the enabling value that data can provide to the business
  • Committed to forming trusting, collaborative and strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders and develop pragmatic, innovative approaches to meet complex data needs and maximize business value

Required/Preferred Education And Licenses

  • A BS in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
