We are currently looking for a talented and skilled Government Affairs Director to be part of our global Government Affairs team to focus on public policy issues related to consumer protection as well as the intersection of privacy and technology. This role will be based in Washington D.C.
Job Description
Overview:
Government Affairs (GA) is responsible for advocating Motorola Solutions’ public policy positions with policymakers in the United States and abroad. GA leads the company’s engagement with government representatives globally, working to develop and preserve regulatory and political environments that are favorable to the company’s profitable growth. In addition, the organization houses the company’s country management organization.
As a Government Affairs Director, you will:
- Assist with the development and implementation of legislative tactics and strategies surrounding public policy related to consumer protection and data privacy.
- Analyze proposed legislation and regulations of importance to the company and advocate in support of public policy that aligns with company priorities.
- Serve as a resource to other GA team members on public policy related to these areas and work closely with internal business stakeholders to understand the impact of such proposals.
- Provide input to plan and develop the organization’s legislative agenda based on a solid understanding of the company’s business priorities.
- Investigate and keep management informed of pending legislative issues of interest to the company.
- Work with and may assist in managing contract lobbyists.
- Coordinate with other team members and be highly collaborative and experienced in effective matrixed working relationships.
- Interact with management and customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.
- Represent the organization as a subject matter expert with the U.S. Congress, key federal agencies, and state legislatures.
Your experience and skills:
To be successful as a Government Affairs Director you should be/have:
- Juris Doctor degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience working on public policy issues related to consumer protection, data privacy and related technology issues.
- Capitol Hill or federal agency experience preferred, but experience working these issues at the state level or through a trade association will be considered.
- Knowledge and experience in developing and advancing legislative issues, as well as developing strategic plans concerning these issues.
- Strong collaborative, teaming and interpersonal skills.
- A self-starter who shows initiative.
- The ability to synthesize and summarize legislative issues and implications for management.
- A seasoned professional who can resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Strategic planning skills.
- Experience with consultant management.
- Ability to effectively leverage association memberships.
- Excellent written and oral skills.
- Ability to create and deliver effective presentations.
Note: This role will be based in Washington D.C.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required (Juris Doctorate Preferred)
- 7+ years of government affairs experience working public policy issues related to consumer protection and data privacy. Capitol Hill, Federal agency or state government experience required.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
