The Live News Editor is responsible for overseeing a team of reporters who are repurposing and rewriting Associated Press stories, using AI tools and techniques, for Newsweek’s audience. The Live News Editor will also assign and edit original stories, as well as coordinate with other editors and bureaus on coverage plans and breaking news. 

You will have the ability to work from home anywhere in the UK or from our London Canary Wharf office.  

Normal working hours are full-time Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm depending on business needs, although flexibility is required.

This is a fixed term contract expiring on 31 January 2025. 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead a team of reporters who are using AI to repurpose and rewrite AP stories, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to AP standards and style. 
  • Assign and edit original stories from reporters and collaborate with other editors and bureaus on coverage plans and breaking news. 
  • Monitor news developments, trends, and identify opportunities to enhance AP reporting with original reporting and enterprise. 
  • Provide feedback and guidance to reporters on their performance and development. 
  • Ensure that the team meets deadlines and produces high-quality content that meets the needs and expectations Newsweek’s audience. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications, or related field. 
  • Significant experience as a reporter or editor, preferably with experience in using AI tools and techniques for journalism. 
  • Experience as a people manager.
  • Strong news judgment and editing skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well with reporters, editors, and other stakeholders across Newsweek. 
  • Knowledge of AP standards and style, as well as familiarity with various platforms and audiences. 
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced and changing news environment, including nights and weekends.
