Job Description Summary:
This job role is an integral part of our ambulatory infusion centers. The medical assistant is an extension to the licensed clinical team members within the center and will function as a vital team member performing clinical and administrative responsibilities.
Job Description:
Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
- IV placement for infusions, administer injections, obtain blood specimens by performing venipuncture, maintain specimen integrity, maintain quality results by following practice procedures, room patients, obtain vitals, keep infusion rooms clean and follow compliance, account for medical supply stock, patient education, port access, completion and passing score of annual skills day
- Patient follow up including but not limited to: contact patients in follow-up after their treatments to be sure they are not having adverse reactions, answer routine questions from patients and family, assist clinical team
- Members (APP’s and RN’s), help take clinically oriented phone calls from patients, report to supervisor the need for any supplies
- Uphold the standard of handling PHI while using this information to prepare for the patients visit and to keep a safe and smooth flow within the clinic. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPPA.
- Maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
- Take and distribute messages, coordinate appointments if needed, help schedule, and other EMR tasks
- Contribute to the team by performing and accomplishing related results as needed, retrieve information when needed, keep open communication with supervisor that is clear and effective
- Continue advancing job knowledge by participating in any offered in-services, trainings, educational opportunities and maintaining personal and professional networks
- Assist with faxing, printing, phone calls to referring providers, upholding continuity of care, copay assistant programs, free medication programs, and appropriate documentation following verbal or written correspondence
- Participate in on-the-job training to obtain IV placement, phlebotomy, and port certifications if those have not yet been acquired
Supervisory Responsibilities

Basic Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from a designated medical assistant program OR
- 2 years of relative working experience as a certified medical assistant, or in a specialty field where job responsibilities or basic qualifications have been utilized.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be able to draw blood
- Must be able to administer biologic injections
- Must be able to start IV’s
- Demonstrates competency in patient care standards required for safe delivery of services as evidenced by completion of orientation and appropriate competencies
- Basic level computer skills (for example: start up and shut down computer, use mouse to point and click, start and close programs, switch between programs, save files, print documents, access information on-line etc.)
- Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
Travel Requirements: (if required)
- Yes, the willingness to cross-cover, if needed, at our other surrounding clinics (Tooele, American Fork, Layton, Murray)
Preferred Qualifications & Interests (PQIs)
- IV Certified
- Phlebotomy certified
- Certified Medical Assistant
