About the role

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Tax Lead who will play a critical role within our team. You will be responsible for the Payroll Tax reporting and compliance function.  You will prepare government reporting, develop planning strategies, and oversee compliance to ensure we meet our legal payroll tax obligations and fiduciary withholding/payment requirements with all federal, state, and local taxing authorities. In addition, you’ll also research and recommend methods for processing company tax, withholding, and transaction information to enhance internal controls, streamline operations, and increase efficiency.

What you’ll do

  • Audit all payroll tax accounts for five (5) U.S. entities from CY2020 to present; approximately 600+ accounts; process all tax payments due directly to agencies.
  • Manage all payroll tax correspondence, notices, and deliverables of federal, state, and local tax accounts for five (5) U.S. entities in 48 states and two Canadian entities.
  • Interface and communicate with UKG to ensure processing of all Federal, State, Local, and other Payroll Tax obligations are filed and paid accurately and timely.
  • Submit notices and facilitate resolutions in coordination with UKG.
  • Register and set up state and local tax jurisdictions.
  • Liaison with Federal, State, and local agencies for audits and inquiries.
  • Coordinate with the Payroll team to ensure accurate processing of taxes and employee paychecks.
  • Generate post Payroll reports to research & resolve all tax-related issues.
  • Responsible for the quarterly & annual reconciliation of internal records to submissions (reported & remittance) to Federal, State, and Local agencies.
  • Responsible for the year-end balancing of W-2s and related Federal and State agency forms to the UKG Payroll System.
  • Preparation of W-2 Corrections and process required amended returns.
  • Provide support and assistance for employees regarding all questions concerning W-2 and W-2C statements.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects while meeting goals and deadlines, with a strong customer service orientation and excellent attention to detail.
  • Provide backup support in biweekly multi-state payroll processing for approximately 2,500+ employees.
  • Support internal and external payroll audit requests.
  • Assist Payroll Manager and the team with special projects as required.
  • Assist in payroll monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service when communicating with employees.

Who you are

  • 3+ years of U.S. payroll tax experience for a large multi-state employer
  • 1+ years of Canadian payroll tax experience
  • 2+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, experience using payroll processing software (Ultimate Software/UltiPro is a plus)
  • Ability to operate independently with little oversight
  • Self-starter; works with a sense of urgency
  • Strong knowledge of local payroll taxes
  • Advanced Excel skills including V-Lookup and Pivot Tables
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate complete discretion and confidentiality
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent education & experience

Compensation & Benefits

  • The salary band for this position ranges $75,000 – $95,000 commensurate with experience and performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as cost of living.
