About the role:
As a Product Designer on the Design Systems team at Samsara, you will play a key role in maintaining, evolving, and improving the design system (Kit) that powers Samsara’s web and mobile experiences. Our design system enables teams across multiple business units to build cohesive, high-quality, and accessible user experiences efficiently.
We’re looking for someone who excels at execution, is detail-oriented, and is passionate about scaling UI components, design tokens, and documentation. In this role, you will contribute to the creation and refinement of design system components, work closely with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation, and support product designers across the company in adopting and using the system effectively.
You will collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure the system is consistent, well-documented, and meets accessibility standards.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.
You should apply if:
- You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
- You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
- You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
- You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will:
- Design and refine UI components, patterns, and styles that help Samsara’s product teams create high-quality, consistent experiences across web and mobile.
- Work closely with engineers to ensure components are implemented correctly, scalable, and accessible.
- Support product designers in adopting and using the design system, providing guidance and improving documentation.
- Improve Figma libraries by maintaining clean, well-structured components that are easy to use and update.
- Ensure accessibility best practices are embedded into the design system components.
- Help scale and improve design tokens for colors, typography, spacing, and more.
- Contribute to design system documentation, ensuring that components and guidelines are clear and well-maintained.
- Monitor and track adoption, surfacing areas where the system can be improved based on feedback from product teams.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 4+ years of experience in product design, with at least 2 years working with a design system (either as a contributor or dedicated role).
- Strong UI and interaction design skills, with a deep understanding of visual consistency, layout systems, and component-based design.
- Fluent in Figma, including component libraries, tokens, auto-layout, and prototyping.
- Experience collaborating closely with engineers, ensuring high-quality handoffs and implementation.
- A portfolio showcasing design system contributions, component work, and impact on team efficiency or product quality.
- Attention to detail and passion for design craft, ensuring pixel-perfect, scalable, and maintainable design patterns.
An ideal candidate also has:
- Experience maintaining or improving a large-scale design system.
- Basic front-end knowledge (HTML, CSS, tokens, accessibility best practices).
- Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG) and designing inclusive experiences.
- Ability to test and iterate on components based on feedback from designers and engineers.
