Regional Development Underwriter

We’re on the lookout for a Development or New Business Underwriter, who wants to excel and develop their careers at Covea.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working as part of a team, and will be open and transparent with the broker community and colleagues throughout the business.

This is a hybrid role and will involve working from home and also being out on the road visiting our brokers.  There will also be a requirement to visit our Chelmsford office from time to time.

What will I be doing?

  • Lead and develop partnership relationships across a dedicated panel of Mid-Market brokers, through scheduled frequent broker visits, broker training, social events and undertake performance review meetings to deliver the planned growth in commercial lines mid market business
  • Profitably underwrite and account manage commercial mid-market risks, within Covéa Insurance’s underwriting strategy, including underwriting on site in broker offices
  • Develop a pipeline of mid market prospects and utilise our tactical trading tools to deliver an effective new business service, continually providing brokers with a competitive advantage
  • Promote the benefits of Covea Insurance products and services across Mid Market, SME and Schemes
  • Supporting colleagues achieve our planned renewal retention and rate improvement targets in the region
  • Maintain an accurate audit trail using Covéa Insurance’s systems, practices and procedures.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of:
    • The commercial lines market
    • The Mid-Market broking marketplace
    • Legislation and litigation which could affect the writing of business
  • Support mid-market operational & process improvement

  • Experienced in profitably underwriting larger and more complex commercial risks
  • Portfolio Management capability
  • Able to deliver financial targets and develop future plans
  • Provide technical and soft skills support to colleagues
  • A strong & decisive approach to commercial underwriting
  • Excellent communication skills combined with the ability to promote our wider proposition and influence positive outcomes
  • Able to operate independently and actively engage at team level to deliver common goals
  • Proactive, innovative and always willing to take the lead
  • Minimum Dip CII or progress towards, is preferred
