Calian Health is currently seeking experienced Registered Nurses for travel assignments in Remote, Isolated and/or Semi-isolated communities within British Columbia, providing community health services to remote Indigenous communities. These are two-week assignments but can extend longer if you prefer longer assignments.

This position provides direct primary care services to clients at all life stages by observing, assessing, monitoring and documenting client health and progress to make evidence informed decisions towards health and wellness.
Responsibilities

  • Provides holistic patient assessments that include health history, medication history, and physical evaluations with patience and Cultural Humility.
  • Monitors, assesses and documents observations, symptoms, interventions and changes in client health status.
  • Where relevant within scope of practice, orders diagnostic testing and/or collects specimens to make evidence informed decisions for care.
  • Documents all information in the client’s personal health file.
  • Applies health promotion, chronic disease management, advanced care planning, and/or self-care management principles to conduct assessments, identify issues, provide direct care, and address concerns or variances from the plan of care with empathy and Cultural Humility.
  • Administers medications, injections and treatments according to established policies and protocols and within the scope of practice.
  • Collaborates with clients and families to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care plans in consultation with members of interprofessional health team as needed.
  • Reviews clinical findings with client/family and the interprofessional team, collaboratively identifies client centred goals and plans for care that promote self-management and improved health-related quality of life.
  • Champions cultural safety and humility in all aspects of the job, and advocates for and applies culturally relevant and appropriate approaches when building relationships and providing nursing services.
  • Maintains competency that reflects current standards of practice, including anti-racism and cultural humility standards as they are developed, by engaging in professional development activities including review of relevant literature, attending educational workshops and in-services, consulting and networking with other health care professionals.

Qualifications

  • RN’s that are Emergency or Critical Care experienced – British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • RN’s that have experience being the First Call and working in remote locations
  • PALS – pediatric advanced life support
  • ENPC – emergency nursing pediatric course
  • ACLS – advanced cardiac life support
  • TNCC – trauma nursing core course (or equivalent)
  • ATLS or ITLS – advanced trauma life support/ International Trauma Life Support
  • BLS – basic life support
  • CTAS – Canadian Triage and Acuity Score
  • PEWS – pediatric early warning system
  • Up to date record of relevant immunizations including Covid-19, Tetanus-diphtheria, Hepatitis B, and influenza and TB annual screening. Records must be submitted prior to dispatching to location. (upon recruitment hire)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • San’yas Cultural Safety Training
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
  • N-95 Mask Fit Test certificate
  • Controlled Substance
  • Suboxone Training

Compensation: $62- $65/hr, 7.5-hour Monday to Friday shifts, with twenty-four hour standby and on call expectations in nursing stations. Travel and accomodation provided for the assignment
