What this job involves:
As Senior Data Center Engineer at JLL, you will play a crucial role in the operations of the Global on-premises infrastructure team. Reporting to the Director Data Centre Operations you will be responsible for planning and implementing technology refreshes and provide technical oversight for the daily operations of the server, storage and virtualisation infrastructure.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Be involved in and/or lead in any operational escalations related to any Data Centre technologies (Storage, Server, and to a degree Network).
- Required to attend all operational meetings and provide guidance and approvals where necessary for Data Centre related tasks or changes
- Provide operational oversight of Managed Services Providers to ensure that delivery of contracted tasks are being performed
- Assist with Data Centre project work where needed. Some of these projects will be global.
- Engage with vendors and stakeholders as needed to ensure end user experience is being delivered at a very high standard
Desired or preferred experience and technical skills:
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of server, storage, and virtualization infrastructure. Implement refreshes to agreed design. Ability to support the environment at 3rd line level and deal with escalations.
- Security and Compliance: Knowledge of security best practices and protocols to ensure the secure operation on the environment.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with support partners and ensure delivery to agreed standards. Collaborate with business teams, IT teams, and external partners.
- Governance and Standards: Ensure solutions comply with operational and governance standards. Member of Change advisory board and scrutinise changes on Change Advisory Board (CAB).
Required Skills and Experience:
Key Skills
At least 10 years of experience in supporting and implementing the following server and infrastructure technologies in a structured environment.
- Microsoft Windows Server OS (2012-2022)
- Linux OS (RedHat)
- Virtualisation: VMware/Nutanix AHV/Windows Hyper-V
- Experience with Storage technologies – NetApp/Isilon NAS, Nasuni, Windows File Shares
- Backup technologies – Rubrik/NetBackup
Desirable Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Deep understanding of Project Management work processes
- Microsoft SQL server
- Hyper Converged Infrastructure: Nutanix
- Virtualisation: migrations between hypervisors/cloud
- Rubrik
- Disaster Recovery processes (Working knowledge of ZERTO is a plus)
- Citrix
- Netapp/Isilon/Nasuni Storage
- Good understanding of TCP/IP, including Load Balancers and Firewall rules
- Knowledge of Azure and AWS
- PowerShell and scripting
- SCCM /patching /vulnerability remediation deployment
- Experience with annual budget planning/reporting
