Water First is a Canadian charity that partners with Indigenous communities across Canada to help address the water crisis through education, training, and meaningful collaboration.
We seek a Video Editor & Illustrator, reporting to the Director, Development & Communications.
Candidates are required to submit a portfolio of work as part of the application process.
Preference for this position will be given to candidates who can reliably commute to our Creemore, ON office one-two days per week, with the remaining days being a work-from-home arrangement. Qualified remote candidates will also be considered.
The Video Editor & Illustrator is responsible for all video production and animation, along with supporting Fundraising and Communications campaigns and virtual events. This role is integral to supporting our programs with digital resources for program delivery, as well as gathering content while team members are in the field. The position is responsible for managing Google Ads to enhance current campaigns and maximize Ads Grant spending.

Wage: $60,000 – $75,000 per annum

What you will do:
Manage all video production and animation, and support gathering content from the field:
- Connect with program, communications, and fundraising teams to generate new meaningful content to engage program participants, followers, and donors. To be used in program delivery, and Water First communications channels (newsletters, website, social media, annual report and other related donor materials)
- Collaborate with program field staff to ensure content is generated while in the field
- Create videos and animation to engage Water First supporters and program partners
- Integrate video and animation into all fundraising and communications strategies/campaigns
- Continue to develop and maintain Water First’s visual identity and contribute to development of branding guidelines
Support for fundraising campaigns, virtual events, paid ads and Google Ads:
- Manage all technical aspects of virtual events, support event planning to engage donors and program partners across the country
- Create and implement Google Ads to enhance current campaigns and maximize Ads Grant spending to increase impressions, click through rates, and donations
- Support paid ads on YouTube
- Support communications planning and creative ideation for all campaigns and key projects
- Create videos and resources to support all fundraising campaigns
Communications support for program design and delivery:
- Collaborate with the Programs team to create graphics, videos, content, and digital tools/assets to support program delivery
- Support Program Communications Working Group to capture content and highlight Water First programming
- Develop and nurture strong, collaborative relationships that deepen your role as a trusted communications partner
Contribute to initiatives that raise awareness about our work, and/or engage donors, to build greater support for the organization, in coordination with Communications and Fundraising.
What you will need:
- 3-5 years of progressive communications experience, preferably in the non-profit sector
- Post-secondary degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field, or a specialized diploma in communications combined with experience
- Strong video production and editing skills, with 3-5 years of experience
- Strong design and editing skills with 1 to 2 years of experience with Adobe Creative programs
- Evidence of creativity and the ability to come up with engaging content ideas
- A dedication to the nonprofit sector and passion for our mandate, which can be demonstrated through your skills having worked in a dynamic environment
- Knowledge of administrative and presentation software, including Zoom, Google Meet, Google Drive, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint/Google Slides
- The ability to troubleshoot technical issues
- Evidence of professionalism, judgment, initiative, tact, discretion, confidentiality, diplomacy, and creativity
- Understanding of, and training completed in, Indigenous historical and cultural awareness, and of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility
- Willingness to continually expand one’s professional skill set, to learn on the job, and to respond to and thrive in a dynamic work environment
- Class G Ontario driver’s license or another provincial equivalent with a clean driving record
- Ability to travel to Indigenous communities approximately 10% of the time to provide program and communications support for program delivery
- A valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
