Minicraft Network

 As a System Administrator, your job is to take the workload off of the main owner.

This is a volunteer job, as any other role in our Mincraft network.

Your duties include, but not limited to:

  • Collecting and archiving server log files.
  • Collecting and archiving critical system log files.
  • Regularly reviewing the system firewall and issue IP bans as necessary.
  • Study malicious activity and implement security barriers capable of minimizing such activity.
  • Maintaining the CoreProtect database.
  • Monitor for intrusion attempts.
  • Monitor RAM-consuming processes
  • Perform system upgrades.
  • Install packages as needed for various tasks.
  • Monitor the server CLI for Java exceptions and report them to the server owner on a timely fashion.
  • Restart the server when it crashes.
  • Stop/Start the server when TPS locks the process up.

As a System Administrator, the following rights are granted:

  • Usage of the main server as a personal VPN service for low to medium bandwidth applications (No pornography or otherwise explicit content allowed. The server logs are monitored by senior Admins frequently.)
  • Usage of the main server for personal storage reasons (Up to 100 megabytes for documents and pictures)
  • Regular sudo-free ssh account for misc usage (Learning, tunneling, messing around, etc.) Sudo in these accounts is not allowed.
  • A generous break from work of about two days per week. (You have 48 hours in total, you may expend some hours to be work-free everyday for 10 hours [school, homework, house chores, etc]

You are not expected to work all the time like you would do in a company.

You should only jump in for critical tasks and regular weekly maintenance (Or when something goes wrong). Your productivity is not measured using hours, but by quality. For instance, you could work only 6 hours each week. Your 48-hour limit is flexible and may increase in times where staff assistance is not needed.

For this volunteering position, you are required to have: 

  • 2+ years of Linux experience, no attachment to specific distros required (CentOS is preferred).
  • 2+ years of Bash experience.
  • Minimal shell scripting experience. (2+ months or less)
  • At least some dedication when time calls for it.
  • Critical thinking skills.

This is not an intensive job. In theory, you could be sitting idle for weeks.
