Position Summary:

The Business Analysis will play a critical role in firm initiatives and projects and is responsible for driving data-driven decision-making, process optimization, and strategic insights.  This position combines analytical expertise with a deep understanding of legal operations to enhance efficiency, client service, and overall business performance by analyzing and improving business processes, identifying and recommending areas of improvement, and implementing effective solutions that align with firm strategy.

A key responsibility within the position will be to develop and maintain tools and protocols for the concept and initiation phases of a project that ensure proposed initiatives have complete and accurate requirements, impacts, architectural diagrams, and business cases that show the value and benefits to be expected. The Business Analyst will analyze project impacts to existing systems and processes, and provide analysis to Project Managers, who will in turn develop the strategy for execution if business case is approved to proceed.

The Business Analyst role will also develop, implement, and maintain a formal change order management process to assess impact of change orders and provide that analysis to the project manager and sponsor, and update any impacted system documentation/maps and/or process maps.

The Business Analyst will participate in technology architectural review boards (“ARB”s) and ensure the sponsor has accurate and appropriate technical diagrams and process maps which translate requirements to technology team.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Develops and maintains tools and protocols for the concept and initiation phases of a project, including but not limited to comprehensive documentation with business cases, process and architectural maps, user stories, functional requirements, and facilitate effective communication across teams
  • Partners with project sponsors to scope out clear goals and project success factors
  • Engages with stakeholders, including lawyers and support staff, to elicit and analyze business requirements
  • Develops and assists in delivering business cases for proposed solutions to leadership
  • Develops and implements a change order management process on projects to effectively forecast the impact of project change requests
  • Collaborates with department leads to understand, analyze, create and maintain a catalog of system integrations and cross departmental processes, and updates any impacted system documentation/maps and/or process maps on an ongoing basis (through new projects and/or change orders)
  • Documents gaps, inefficiencies, and recommends/implements areas for improvement into a project initiation and requirements elicitation
  • Contributes innovative and practical solutions to address identified business challenges, leveraging technology and process improvements to drive efficiency and effectiveness
  • Participates in portfolio prioritization reviews with PMO Directors (EPM and IT PM) to ensure accurate prioritization of projects based on firm business drivers
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for ongoing process improvement, leveraging industry best practices, emerging technologies, and client feedback to enhance operational efficiency and client service delivery
  • Measures project success via the project closure process and recommend areas for improvement to project management and execution processes
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Competencies

  • Possesses a solid understanding of legal business processes, including practice areas, matter management, client engagement, and financial operations within a law firm
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data sets, identify trends, and extract actionable insights. Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL) and data visualization tools (e.g., Visio, Power BI) is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing business processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing effective solutions. Knowledge of process improvement methodologies is advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels. Has strong presentation skills and the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Familiarity with legal technology solutions (e.g., document management systems, timekeeping software, legal research tools, legal financial systems) and their integration with business processes
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines. Possesses strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Has a deep understanding of attorney (or equivalent professional services) work product and diverse work styles
  • Maintains complete sensitivity in the handling of firm data
  • Demonstrates effective, thorough, and complete follow-up
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to prioritize responsibilities, take initiative and self-motivate/self-manage work and time
  • Has exceptional computer skills including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, macros)
  • Innovative and creative thinker willing to try new methods of communicating, risk mitigation, and use of efficiency tools in the course of performing various job duties

Qualifications & Prior Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university 
  • 3 – 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably within the legal industry or a professional services environment
  • Experience working with global teams is highly desirable. Previous legal industry experience a major plus
