Principal Hardware Engineer – Antenna Design

This is a remote position that could be based anywhere in China mainland or Taiwan.

Wi-Fi technology is continue growing fast so to support more and more complicated applications scenario whatever at residential side and at business side. Our mission is to deliver the amazing user experience whatever on high speed, good coverage, and stable quality. Antenna design is one of most import part to achieve excellent Wi-Fi performance. Calix is seeking an experienced antenna designer to work with internal hardware teammate, ODM partners and antenna partners developing innovative and advanced antenna system integrated in Calix premises ONT and GigaSpire Blast products. This position focuses on developing antenna requirements, evaluating antenna technology selection, overseeing antenna development, and ensuring high quality results for residential and business gateways in both the telecom and MSO market spaces. This role also works closely with product line leadership and cross-functional teams to evaluate new antenna technology and application scenarios.

 Responsibilities and Duties:

• Involvement with up front project planning, contributing to ID design, antenna technology assessment, cost analysis, and antenna related requirements development.
• Independently leading antenna evaluation and development. High sense on product’s risk on antenna area and competitiveness opportunity for enabling effective decisions based on the product’s big picture goals.
  • Leading the antenna pre-simulation at initial phase so to select the best antenna technology and come out the proposal to the whole product design team for further discussion.
  • Leading the antenna design implementation with ODM partner/antenna supplier partner from simulation, verification, and tunning.
  • Co-working with cross-functional teams so to ensure system integration, wireless compliance, production feasibility.
  • Reviewing ODM/antenna supplier deliverables to ensure antenna’s quality.
• Driving and managing the ODM antenna team/antenna supplier to continually improve antenna development capability, process, and quality.
  • DFX consideration and implementation.
  • Identifying and improving potential antenna performance, design process.
  • Supporting SWOT analysis for cooperated ODM partners/antenna supplier partner, involvement with related strategy development.
• Evaluating and executing test cases during internal verification. Ability to process and analyze large amounts of antenna test data for some supporting service purpose.
• Supporting the extended team through continuous documentation improvement efforts such as building knowledge databases and sharing of best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or above in electronics, communication and microwave related.
• Strong radiation knowledge background related to antenna and wave propagation theoretical
• 12 years or above antenna development experience on access network devices at residential and Small/medial business including both indoor application and outdoor application.
• Very familiar with different type antenna like PCB type, FPC type, LDS type and stamper Metal type, etc. Very strong solution mindset to implement suitable antenna depended on application scenario
• Very familiar with antenna design and integration process.
• Master in antenna and radiation simulation software like CST, HFSS, ADS.
• Experience on using mechanical design software and PCB designer to support antenna design
• Wi-Fi experience is preferred. Utilize antenna system design /characterization knowledge towards addressing wireless regulatory requirements for US, Canada, EU & UKCA markets.
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally.
• Good communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects simultaneously, good sense of priority and time management.
• Good English written and oral skills are preferred
