About the Role:

As an Business Operations Team Leader on the Benefits Business Operations team you will lead the strategy and execution of our automation initiatives. You will oversee the performance and scalability of automation operations, ensuring they align with Gusto’s business goals. You will guide the team in solving complex challenges, establish best practices, and foster collaboration across cross-functional stakeholders. Additionally, you will be accountable for defining and prioritizing team-wide goals, delivering high-impact results, and championing the integration of advanced technologies to elevate our operations.

About the Team:

The Automation Operations Team’s purpose is to orchestrate innovation through the seamless integration of cutting-edge automation and carrier technologies. The Automation Operations team is passionate about using innovative technology and service to elevate the health benefits experience of small business owners and their employees.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Automation Operations Team, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and delivering impactful outcomes
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive roadmap for automation and carrier technology initiatives, enabling scalability and innovation in benefits administration
  • Lead managers and individual contributors in optimizing automation processes, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a key leader in cross-functional collaborations, aligning automation initiatives with broader product, engineering, and business goals
  • Analyze operational and business performance data, identifying trends and implementing strategies to drive automation efficiency and effectiveness
  • Partner with executive leadership to communicate progress, surface opportunities, and advocate for resources to support automation initiatives
  • Act as a thought leader, staying ahead of industry trends and incorporating best practices to advance automation capabilities
  • Manage escalations for complex issues, ensuring effective resolution and implementing preventative measures for long-term success
  • Drive employee development and succession planning, ensuring the team is equipped to meet current and future challenges

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Visionary Leadership: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals, scale operations, and deliver measurable results
  • Operational Expertise: Strong understanding of automation technologies, data integration, and benefits administration processes, with the ability to balance strategic oversight with attention to detail
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Skilled at influencing and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, from team members to executives
  • Problem Solving & Analytical Skills: Advanced ability to identify and solve complex operational challenges, leveraging data-driven insights to inform decisions
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Passionate about creating seamless and impactful customer experiences through innovative automation solutions

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in health insurance, benefits administration, automation, or related fields
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, with a proven track record of driving operational success
  • Expertise in strategic planning, automation implementation, and process optimization
  • Familiarity with Gusto’s benefits automation tools and processes is a strong plus

Our cash compensation amount for this role is $105,000 to $156,000/yr in Denver & most major metro locations, and $123,000 to $191,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto’s subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
