Centrica
We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We’re energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team:
At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it.
We’re the household heroes powering 1 in 3 homes in the UK – but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK’s homes greener and more energy efficient, together with our friends at Hive. By using their clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we’re making it cheaper and easier to reduce your home’s carbon-footprint. And with our Peak Save programme, we’re actively rewarding better energy use too.
Commercial Strategy Manager
With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. This role will be Homebased with the occasional meeting in either Windsor or Leicester.
We understand that 9-5 doesn’t suit everyone, which is why we’re open to discussing flexible working arrangements. Whether you need to adjust your hours to fit your lifestyle or have specific needs that require a tailored schedule, we’re here to accommodate. Let’s work together to find a solution that works for you and benefits the team.
About your role:
An exciting opportunity to turn our purpose into reality ensuring business success. Our Strategic Manager will lead the development of BGB’s commercial strategy, shaping the direction for the next three to five years. It involves defining our vision, mission, and goals, as well as outlining the key actions needed to achieve those objectives.
Your key daily accountabilities will be:
- Lead the creation of the commercial strategy, setting the external and internal context, agreeing, and answering the key strategic questions to define the overall strategy.
- Support the development of the strategic narrative for BGB, ensuring that the vision and strategy is communicated and understood at all levels within the business.
- Constantly review strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to evaluate our competitive position and to develop strategic plans.
- Define the strategic priorities that will form the key areas of focus needed to achieve our goals and vision.
- Work with others to define the specific actions needed for each focus area to execute the strategy.
- Work with Finance to translate the business strategy into a 5-year financial Shape (high-level P&L), with a compelling narrative of how that will be achieved.
- Regularly analyse market and competitor trends and assess the implications for BGB.
- Use market, customer, and competitor insight to get a deep understanding of the needs and wants of our customers.
- Work with colleagues across the group to formulate how we’ll help businesses transition to net zero, supporting the wider Group Climate Transition plan.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
We are seeking a driven and enthusiastic individual with a proven track record in delivering commercial strategies or financial projections. You should be proactive, always staying ahead of competitors by anticipating new ways of working or initiatives that could influence our direction.
A strong understanding of the energy market is essential, including evolving trends, customer needs, and the regulatory landscape. Success in this role requires the ability to tackle complex problems and design value-creating solutions, paired with a confident communication style that can influence and engage stakeholders effectively.
You must be comfortable navigating ambiguity, recognizing that plans may shift at a moment’s notice. Building strong relationships at all levels of the business will be critical, as will your ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
This role demands a self-motivated, proactive, and flexible individual who thrives under pressure and can adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
