Graduate Actuarial Analyst

SALARY – Up to £28,000 (DOE)

LOCATION –This role is fully remote, so can be performed from home.  But if you’re keen to get into the office, you can too!

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our Actuarial department as a Graduate Actuarial Analyst within the reserving team. Our main work involves trying to predict how much money we need to hold in order to pay our claims, including those that have not yet been reported; giving a view on how our products are performing; and trying to estimate how much money we need to hold as a business to survive the worst reasonable scenario.

You will be joining a small and dynamic team, which provides great progression opportunities and the potential to take on responsibility and ownership for regular reporting as well as ad hoc projects.

What will I be doing?

The role will cover a number of analytical tasks, reporting into a Senior Commercial Lines Actuarial Analyst, with scope to work across a number of products. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Build and maintain claim cost forecasting models and comparing against actual experience
  • Calculating how much money we need to hold in the worst case scenario in line with regulatory (Solvency II) requirements, considering a range of different risks
  • Producing quarterly and annual reports within set timeframes, for the business, management committees and the regulator
  • Assessing data quality, in terms of it being complete, accurate and appropriate and recommend improvements if needed
  • Explaining the results of analysis in a non-technical way, getting the key message across in a simple and insightful way
  • Extracting data, manipulating and analysing it to produce useful information for the business
  • Ensuring your actuarial and/or statistical work is carried out to high standards of professionalism
  • Working with other business areas to maximise the benefit to Covéa Insurance, for example forecasting future claims experience, or assessing inflation trends to predict future inflation

You should apply if you have…

  • A 2:1 or higher mathematical-related degree as a minimum.
  • Experience in an analytical or Financial based role is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication and the ability to present results in analytical reports appropriate for the relevant audience.
  • Ability to think analytically and logically.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform all analyses with integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to organise, process and manipulate data in a variety of tools including Microsoft Excel and R. VBA/SQL programming would also be an advantage.
  • The ability to challenge assumptions, identify key issues and escalate as appropriate.
