The role:
As a Senior Public Relations Specialist you will play a frontline role in promoting and advocating to press and media stakeholders for Frontiers’ as a world-class open access research publisher and open science thought leader. This is an opportunity to bring your research publishing knowledge, drafting skills, and networking ability to bear in a team and department (External Affairs) where we make a difference to the debates and polices shaping open science.
If you have the resilience to work on fast-paced media enquiries, the enthusiasm to win journalists over, and the knowledge to convincingly advocate to specialist press (research, education, and publishing) and top tier outlets alike, we want you. There are exciting VIP projects to contribute to.

Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Reputation Management:
- Administer media inquiries and respond to straightforward requests using established scripts.
- Support messaging related to quality and integrity through copywriting and collaboration.
- Manage the PR risk register and assist the social media team with reputational posts.
Media Liaison:
- Support journalist briefings, maintain media lists, and draft pitches.
- Manage mass mailouts of press releases.
Policy and Public Affairs Coordination:
- Monitor media sentiment related to policy developments and provide weekly updates.
- Research speaking events and prepare presentation materials.
Thought Leadership:
- Draft blogs for the website and support external comment pieces.
- Familiarity with media monitoring metrics.
Requirements:
- Experience in research publishing and a strong understanding of academic publishing.
- Previous experience in PR role
- Strong organizational, proofing, and drafting skills for media audiences.
- Familiarity with media databases and social media management.
- Strategic thinking with effective stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities, with an understanding of research communities.
