The Spruce Pets team is looking for a writer to write and update pet-related buying guides with the latest products, information, and testing insights to help readers make the best purchasing decisions, while also following SEO best practices. This role reports into The Spruce Pets Commerce Editor.
- Write new content and update existing content as needed
- Audit content using competitor analysis, marketplace knowledge, and internal data (e.g. insights from product testing) to produce meaningful updates that help keep our product recommendations current
- Research new products and new trends to make sure we’re making the best recommendations to our readers, and check on stock availability and new versions or models of products
- Find and interview veterinarians and industry experts for stories
- Advise vertical editors when larger updates are required and offer suggestions on products to add/remove
- Ensure both new and existing content reflects the voice and values of The Spruce Pets
- Participate in product testing

Our team of writers, including trainers, Registered Vet Technicians (RVTs) and Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVMs), produce and update informative articles full of valuable insights honed from years of hands-on experience. The Spruce Pets commerce team exhaustively researches and tests a broad range of products to ultimately make curated lists of recommendations that are the best fit for your pet.
About The Positions Contributions:
Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
90% Writing and updating The Spruce Pets evergreen commerce library
5% Interviewing veterinarians or other expert sources to update our content
5% Participating in The Spruce Pets product testing
The Role’s Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Journalism, English, or similar
Experience:
- 2+ years writing experience at an online publisher, preferably in the pets space
- Experience with owning a pet and/or working on pet-related digital content is a plus
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:
- Personal interest in finding the best products for pets based on the needs of the pet and owner across a variety of categories
- Detail-oriented and deadline-focused
- A self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new initiatives and directives are identified and adjusts processes accordingly
- Familiarity with SEO best practices
- Comfortable with digital media tools such as CMSes, Airtable, Google Sheets, etc.

Pay Range
Salary: Remote US: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00
